Evaluation Process

 journal “Archaeology” uses a Double-Blind Peer Review system. For the publication of an article in the journal, two positive and anonymous reviews are mandatory.

The reviewer does not have any information about the identity of the author, and the author does not have any information about who is reviewing their work.

Reviewers for each article are selected by the editorial board from scholars working at various universities around the world, whose academic competence and research experience correspond to the subject matter of the manuscript.

In the case where a manuscript receives one positive and one negative evaluation, the article is sent to a third reviewer, whose decision ultimately determines the issue of publication.

A reviewer may:
• Recommend the publication of the manuscript in its present form (positive review);
• Not recommend the publication of the manuscript (negative review);
• Propose the publication of the manuscript after revision.

A positive review is considered valid if the manuscript is awarded at least 70 points in accordance with the evaluation form.

In the case of 50–70 points, the reviewer may either give a negative review or a recommendation for revision with specific comments.

A score below 50 points means a negative review.

The results are immediately sent to the author.

Additional Procedures

If the reviewer expresses comments or recommendations, the author is given the opportunity to:
• Take the recommendations into account and make the necessary revisions (within a maximum period of 2 months);
• Or provide a justification of their own position.

The final evaluation of the revised text is carried out by the same reviewer.

In the case of recommendations, the consent of all co-authors regarding the changes made is mandatory.

If the author does not agree with the reviewer’s comments, their justified position is considered by the editorial board, which has the right to make the final decision on whether to publish or reject the article.

The editorial board makes the decision to publish a manuscript based on at least two positive recommendations; however, this does not constitute a guarantee of publication, since the final decision belongs to the editorial board.
