Rules for drafting and submission of material to be published in the scientific-research journal "Archaeology" of the European University’s Academician Andria Apakidze Institute of Archaeology

 (Scientific Article, Report, Catalog)

 

Rules for drafting an article:

Authors can submit articles in Georgian, Russian and English. The recommended size limit for submitted research is 30 pages, including the bibliography and illustrations (the established limit does not apply to the submission of a field report and catalog).

Basic Formatting:

  • Page format: A4
  • Margins: Top and bottom - 2.5 cm; right-left - 2.5 cm.
  • Used font - Sylfaen for Georgian and Russian language; for text written in other languages - Times New Romans/Arial.
  • The font used in footnotes should correspond to the main text.
  • Font size of the main part: 11, footnotes: 10
  • Line spacing:5
  • Paragraphs: One-centimeter
  • Pages should not be numbered

 

Structural units of the article:

  • Article Title: centered, bold, font Size 1
  • Author’s information: aligned to the right, font size – 11; include the author’s name, surname, academic degree, academic position, place of work/study, contact information, city, country.
  • The key words: Include at least 5, but no more than These keywords should reflect the primary concepts addressed in the scientific paper. Avoid using words with multiple or general meanings, as well as abbreviations. This aids readers in locating the relevant article.
  • The abstract: It serves as a concise description of the topic explored in the article, providing a summary of the main issues discussed. The abstract should briefly convey the content of the work, enabling readers to grasp the scientific problems without delving into the main text. The abstract should comprise 150-250 words.
  • In the main body of the text, significant emphasis is placed on describing the research and analyzing the results. This includes detailing the research process, providing coherent reasoning, and drawing theoretical conclusions. Intermediate findings and the rationale behind the overarching conclusion are also elucidated.
  • The conclusion serves as a summary of the research findings. It encapsulates the core essence of the research and its significance, outlines the main discoveries and potential recommendations, and sparks interest in future investigations.
  • The article should be shared via email in electronic format.

 

Report

 

Similar to a scientific article, a report should adhere to a predetermined structure and format.

 

Structural units of the Report

  • Article Title: centered, bold, font Size 1
  • Author’s information: aligned to the right, font size – 11; include the author’s name, surname, academic degree, academic position, place of work/study, contact information, city, country.
  • Abstract
  • Main Body

The report may exceed a 30 page limit.

The main body comprises sections for Introduction, Research Methods, Results  and Discussion.

  • The introduction provides context and outlines the research’s objectives.
  • Research Methods should be presented detailed information about the personnel participating in the study, materials and procedures (with possible sub-divisions)
  • "Results" present a summary of research data.
  • "Discussion of results" entails a comparative analysis with previous studies and interpretation of the data from the current study. It may be followed by “Recommendations”.

Catalog:

The catalog must adhere to the prescribed structure and format and must contain the following:

  1. Author information:
  • Author(s) name and surname
  • Academic degree(s)
  • academic position(s)
  • Place of work/study
  • Contact information
  • City
  • Country (in the right edge of the font size 11);
  1. Brief information:
  • A concise overview of the contents and scope of the catalog.

The main section will focus on illustrations and descriptions of items/artifacts included in the catalog. There is no strict limit on the volume of pages, but it is allowed to exceed 30 pages.

 

Method of Referencing Literature/Sources:

Literature/sources are cited within the main text itself. In the appropriate place, within square brackets, the following information will be included: author, date and relevant page numbers, for example [Kipiani G. 2002:15-20]. At the end of the paper, in the list of used literature/bibliography, all sources are indicated in full form.

When citing works by the same author published in the same year, distinguish them as follows:

Noneshvili Al. 2021a: ...

Noneshvili Al. 2021b: ...

Author’s notes within the text are indicated in round brackets, e.g. (the line is mine T. B.)

Quotation:

  • Direct quotations should be enclosed in quotation marks.
  • Excerpts longer than two lines (both top and bottom) should be separated from the main text and indented as a block paragraph. Use three dots to represent any omitted text [...].
  • When quoting from a foreign language source, providing a Georgian translation is preferable. Citations provided by the author must include the relevant pages from the source.

Examples of bibliography reference:

References should be listed in alphabetical order, with a font size of 12 and line spacing of 1.5. Include both the place of publication and publisher in the bibliographic description of the literature used.

Article Reference Format:

Author's last name(s), initial(s), article title, journal name, issue number, year of publication, page(s) (if any - article identifier - ORCID Id / DOI).

(Example: Jibladze L., Abkhazia as an integral part of the Bronze-Early Iron Age archaeological cultures of Colchis. Scientific-research journal "Archaeology", N6. European University’s Acad. Andria Apakidze Archaeological Institute, Historical-Archaeological Museum, 2021. pp. 100 -127).

Book Reference Format:

Author's last name(s), initial(s), title of the book. City, publisher /publisher, year.

(Example: Kipiani G., Uplistsikhe. Tbilisi, "Logos", 2002).

Internet Resource Reference Format:

Author’s last name(s), initial(s) (year, month, day of publication). The title of the paper. Site link, last viewed date.

(Example: Khomasuridze, N., Challenges of Political Funding Accountability and Transparency in Georgia. Institute for the Development of Freedom of Information-IDFI. https://idfi.ge/ge/challenges_of_political_funding_accountability_and_transparency_in_georgia: (2022, January 22), [last viewed: February 1 , 2022].

Method of citing the source:

In the case of authenticating a Georgian-language source, only the author’s name is provided, without the title. Inside the article, it appears as: [Leonti Mroveli, 7]

In the list of literature: Leonti Mroveli. The Georgian Royal Annals, "The Georgian Chronicles", I, text established according to all manuscripts by Kaukhchishvili. Tbilisi, "Sakhelgami", 1955.

In the case of certifying a translation of a foreign language source, the last name of the translator must be indicated.

Rules for using and placing illustrations:

  • Illustrative material will be printed in color.
  • Each illustration must be accompanied by a description, font size - 11.
  • Illustrations must stand out on the screen and are recommended to have a resolution 96-150 dpi.
  • The author is responsible for obtaining the rights to use the illustrations.
  • Illustrations (such as maps, photographs / plans / graphics / sketches / tables) will be placed within the text or after the main text, accompanied by a description and the author’s name
  • Each illustration will be numbered and the corresponding numbering will be indicated in the main text, for example: [Fig. 3, fig. 6 etc.].
