ODZRAKHE (ABASTUMANI) MONASTERY COMPLEX ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH REPORT-2019
Abstract
The Odzrakhe monastery complex is located in historical Samtskhe, on a high rocky hill on the right
bank of the rivers Otskha and Kurtskhanistskali (town/daba of Abastumani, Adigeni municipality, Samtskhe-Javakheti region).
The preliminary archaeological research of the monastery complex is a prerequisite for the restoration of the individual buildings included in it in the future (next year).
Description of the research question and a general overview of spiritual and material objects/monuments in the territory of Adigeni municipality.
“Odzrakhe ravine”, is one of the significant historical-geographical regions of both Samtskhe “...which
is Zemo (Upper) Kartli”, and of all Georgia.
The study area has been used by humans since ancient times (Abastumani Eneolithic settlement) and
life, with different intensities, in some cases, as well as in many parts of Georgia, with certain time gaps,
since today.
